ABOUT

We tend to find ourselves stuck in a cycle of busy schedules and endless distractions, that we forget how it feels to truly enjoy a moment. Food is one of those things that creates a ritual, a moment to enjoy with oneself or with others, away from any worries. We believe that life is about the journey and the simple things that make it, so we hope that NOM offers you the opportunity to slow down, breathe and simply enjoy.

The veneered plywood on felt acts as a place mat. The simple technique of ‘rolling it away’ creates the tension needed to avoid the chopsticks from sliding out. It stays closed as a portable container for your chopsticks with the use of small earth magnets.

In a world of disposable items, it is important to remember that every little thing matters. We hope this project is an opportunity to create awareness about non-reusable chopsticks and act as an approach to reduce their use by creating a sense of ritual.

A project done by Heidi Rey, Tom Meeuwsen and myself: in collaboration with Emily Carr University and Walrus Design.
